It's growing alright, just like FNAF did when it first started. People are start talking about it a little, then moderately, then a shit load of it. Hell, the first thing that pops up on groups.deviantart.com is Undertale. Then at the end, people will start hating it for "da fanz!!111" and "itz ovewated". After that, people will finally forget about it.
Funny thing is, this happened in every flamewar or anything that went viral. Here's a list.
Frozen.
Nicki Minaj - Anaconda.
The dress.
The comments section in The Offspring - You're Gonna Go Far, Kid (see the flamewar before it died down: web.archive.org/web/2015010100…)
MLP (not on DeviantArt, but in the rest of the internet).
Wolf comics (old DeviantArt).
Any vine older than a few months.
Any major pop song older than a few months.
EVERY. SINGLE. FUCKING. UPDATE. DEVIANTART MAKES.
Core Membership (kinda goes with the what's on top though).
The list can go on, but it seems people won't learn. They just get followed by the ear of whatever becomes mainstream (disclaimer: not every fan, but the majority of them). Oh well, I'm just gonna sit back here, relax, and enjoy the popcorn while the fun unfolds. XD

Congratulations, that's what they said about Frozen and FNAF, and you know how that went. Funny when they say there's not many games better than FNAF or Undertale, yet they never looked at underground games like Lone Survivor. I mean, Lone Survivor is 10x more "unique", scarier, and better than FNAF, and the choices made are a lot more harder to get a certain ending than in Undertale. Guess what? Is that game popular? LOL NO! And that, is the reason why people say popular things are better than underground creations.
As for the reason why both games are popular in the first place, it's clearly obvious. If you asked ANY fan of Undertale or FNAF how they got into the game, they'll most likely say "oh I saw PewDiePie playing it!" Why? Due to famous Youtubers such as ManlyBadassHero, Markiplier, and PewDiePie naturally have a fanbase full of retarded 11 year old children. Since these Youtubers are famous, they play these crappy games, and this draws the retarded 11 year old children's attention. The retarded 11 year old children start making art, talking about it, and now you've got a cancerous disease spreading. Quite sad really to live like that.
